Jude walking and more!

So another day down, I’m really “feelin the burn”, as they say, at the minute. Also been one of the craziest weeks I’ve had in ages. First, big news;

Jude took his first steps!!! He just up and walked, this was yesterday, but because of work etc I didn’t get to see it until today, he near runs until he falls but he’s steady enough already! When we went to his room to put his pajamas on he walked from the doorway right to the other side of the room to his bed, climbed up on it, and got a dummy. He’s already sneaky, and I love it. To think he could barely crawl a couple of months ago, its amazing to watch someone grow every day and learn new things every day. Unreal.

It’s been a great week anyway, I’m in for a promotion at work and I managed to get an interview there so fingers crossed. Wrote a couple of new songs as well, one is a collaborative effort with a guy from Ballyclare called TurboShandy and another I wrote for myself just. Been rattlin away at it tonight so I might even have it ready for the next gig.

Not much more to report on working out, just the usual, I will say that today I actually feel a lot better in general, as in I was more awake and had more energy, and thank God because I’ll need it now with running after Jude!

I’ll part you with this picture;Image

I really enjoyed it anyway.

Day 2 – Pray for Mojo

So, I’m not sure how many of you seen my facebook last night, I decided to work out for a solid further 30 minutes, and pushed myself really hard. I made a point of noting a portion of the playlist;

Less than Jake – The brightest bulb has burned out

Outkast – B.O.B.

Meatloaf – I’d do anything for love

Barenaked Ladies – Be my Yoko Ono

It’s not hilarious or anything, but it was such a strange workout. I pushed myself so hard that when another Barenaked Ladies song came on 20 minutes later, I literally slowed to a point of stopping. I lay on my living room floor for at least 15 minutes. I know I listened to N*SYNC, “Pump up the Jams” and “Love of the Common People” by Paul Young. I then dragged myself to the computer, and I typed some of this up. My arms were so sore I was holding them to my sides, I felt like this when I tried to continue;

Anyway, I learned a valuable lesson, however I have no idea what that lesson was.

Today was a music day for myself. Had my first real set practice with GRIM, did some of my stuff, some of their stuff, as we both play on each others material for gigs. Then I had my first day back teaching guitar after the summer, 11 students to start this year. Some of them play other instruments already, so it’s not too bad. We all got pitch pipes as well. I’ve never had a pitch pipe before, so it was a big moment for me.

Just finished my workout again tonight. Same as last night. Can barely move my arms to type. Used all my remaining strength to lift my phone to take this picture;Image

I have learned nothing. I will probably do this all over again every day until I don’t die at the end.

Day 1 – Fatman Begins

So today was my first day of getting into better shape. Lose the belly and be in better shape for Jude. I exercised today a good bit actually, in comparison to previously. My brother, amazingly, had an exercise bike that he didn’t use so that’s in my house now, used that for 30mins. Did me sit ups and push-ups etc. but enough of that.

I ate better today than I usually do, smaller portions, better foods, but I’m not going to preach to you about what’s better for you or what I should be eating etc., because frankly, I don’t know. I really don’t. I have a vague idea of what foods are bad, like crisps and bowls of sugar, but I’m not looking to lose weight in a hurry, so I’ll play it by ear and see how it goes.

I’ll miss my tasty bowls of sugar…

Do I feel any better? It’s only one day, I feel absolutely exactly the same. A little sore, a little hungry, but otherwise pretty much the usual sexy myself. Anyone any tips? Let me know and I’ll share em with the rest of the readers, you could be saving more than myself here folks!

Until tomorrow,

Fat Nate.

MUSIC

I try to keep other endeavors out of the blog, but for those who missed it, the gig on Saturday night was phenomenal, so thanks to all who turned up. Also, my tracks on soundcloud are newly available to download, so get on over and check em out.

New Blog – The Beginning of Superdaddy.

So, my son turned a year old a little while ago, and as I’ve said it has been the most amazing experience you could ever imagine. I genuinely could not be happier with life as it stands, I’m successful in that right. However, I am not a fit man. I would even go so far as saying I am unfit, I have skinny arms, yet a belly, and man boobs coming through. I eat unhealthy, drink unhealthy, and can’t walk up the hill to my work without stopping, albeit briefly, to compose myself. To be honest, the belly and boobs are a recent addition (in the last few years), but I’ve never really been fit. I spent all my energy on Nintendo and music and didn’t care much for running about. Then I came across this passage online;

 “See that baby in your house?

Imagine, in 4 years time, when he wants to go to the park and run around. You’re tired because you’re overweight(?) and out of shape. You want to make him happy, but you’re in a fog. You need something to wake you up, so you drink some soda – killing yourself slowly in the process. You go to the park and they want to run around and do the monkey bars – all the things that leave you winded and even more tired.

“I can’t, buddy,” you say, thinking about how much *work* it would be.

Is that the future you want? Or do you want to clear that mental fog, feeling better both physically and mentally every day you workout? Do you want to rely on soda and caffeine to be alert and awake, or do you want to have the metabolism to be at the top of your game every single minute of every single day simply because you’re in shape and healthy? Do you want to be able to outrun your kids when they want to go playing, with them tiring out long before you do? Do you want to be around for them for years and years, as their friends’ parents get sick and age faster than you?

If so, then get up and press play and get going. Every hour you spend working out and developing healthy habits is days longer you get to spend on this Earth with your loved ones. If you’re not going to get healthy and in the best shape of your life (and really, make a healthy lifestyle change) for yourself, do it for your infant. Be their health role model – instill in them the good habits you’re about to form so that they don’t ever need the motivation to become healthy. It’ll be instinctual for them. If you’re healthy and press upon them your good habits, being healthy, in shape, and fit will come naturally to them. “

Of course it wasn’t aimed at me specifically, it was aimed at someone who was actually looking for motivation. Not me, I was happy in my burger bubble until I read it. It rings home too true. So, for the next few months I will start afresh on the blog, and try to become a healthier version of myself. I will start on Monday the 17th of September, and will update nearly every day. Now don’t fear, this is not going to be me coming on every day and saying

 “Did 40 push-ups and ate a sandwich. Good workout.”

 It will be as anecdotal and realistic as some of you got used to in the months leading up to Jude being born.

 If anyone else reads this and it rings home true, I urge them to join me for the next while, or you can just follow me here. I hope one day soon to be a much finer specimen of a man. Well, than I already am.

Playlist;
